Google/Yahoo/SE improvement suggestion

This weekend I’ve been researching some subjects on google and I noticed the amount of garbage coming in the first pages due to old content. Of course, this problem is not exclusive on google. It happens with Yahoo! and the other Search Engines.
Charts comparing softwares or programming languages or whatever. Discussions on email lists, articles, blogs, etc. All this content was good one or three years ago, but today they are garbage!

It is a pain to find fresh content for certain subjects.

Please tell me if I’m wrong or it is possible already, but they should have a way to order results by date or a way to ignore results older than ‘date’. I know that if you go into Advanced Search you can ask it to show only updated content within 3 months, 6 months or 1 year, but I wonder how it works because it doesn’t really seem to work as I expect.

You can do, for example, a search requesting only contents updated within 3 months and you’ll probably get links to articles such as www.domain.com/articles/2005/03/01/blabla

Do you see what I mean?
