Best dog car seat

Since I posted about another product, let me talk about this one too because this may help someone else.

After over 2 years and 2 months waiting for our car, we finally received our Tesla Model 3 back in July. Although it was my order and my wife was not even aware when I made the reservation for the car on April 1st, 2016, I let she do the first drive out of the Tesla Service Center. I know, I don’t know how or why I did it, but you can imagine the anxiety.

You know how it is when you get a new car… I was being very careful with it, so there was no way that I’d let our dog Chewie in the back seats with no cover or any other kind of protection. So I started researching our options. At the time, there was nothing custom for Tesla’s and I couldn’t find any recommendation on the Model 3 forums. So I started looking on Amazon and other sites for recommendations.

I went from those ugly seat covers, to the hammock covers, to pet car seats. Chewie is a rough coat Jack Russell mix, so it would be nice if he could seat higher to look out of the window and bark at bicycles, so we decided to go with a car seat.

The requirements were:

  • Protect the seats from scratches
  • Good size for our small dog to be able to look out the window
  • It has to look nice
  • It has to be safe for Chewie in case of accidents

After looking at many options, I found one that matched our requirements.

This is the one (you can see more about it here: https://amzn.to/2Cgdxyf or click on the picture below):

Chewie loves it and it keeps him safe, since the seat itself is locked by the seatbelts and it comes with two hooks that you we can lock to his harness.

We liked it so much that we ended up buying a second one to keep in my wife’s car. She used to drive him around in the back seat, but we figured this is a much safer and better option overall. I hope this helps you decide.
